EMPAC

The District 71 Employees' Political Action Committee, "EMPAC", held a fundraiser Saturday, January 19, 2002. EMPAC funds must be raised by voluntary contributions outside of SEANC and no money from SEANC funds can be contributed to, or used to raise funds for, EMPAC. Kim Glover, EMPAC Chairperson, for District 71 has a goal of $1000 to raise for the year.

David Reynolds organized the First SEANC Spades Tournament and contacted local businesses and individuals for support. Thanks go out to John Knott, Gene Wooten, Joyner's Supermarket, Krispie Crème Doughnuts, Paula Bobbitt, Barbara Grimes, Mike Williams, Daryl Aycock, Bessie Williams, Oasis Pinochle Club, and Checks 2 Cash for their support and contributions to make the tournament a success. The First Place Winners were Butch Boyd and Lavinia Harrison; Second Place went to Rupert Fox and Paul Wiggins; and Third Place Winners were Loretta Bass and Laura Doughtin. Mr. Bill Hardy won the 50/50 drawing. Congratulations and thanks to all that participated in helping raise $200 for EMPAC.

Another tournament is scheduled for March 30. Invite your family and friends to join the fun and enter the tournament.

SEANC DISTRICT 71 NEWS

The 2nd Annual SEANC District 71 Golf Tournament was held on October 19, 2001 at Wedgewood Public Golf Course in Wilson, North Carolina. A total of 43 4-man (change that to person, there were some ladies too!) teams showed up to make this an outstanding day of golf, fun and festivities. In fact, the turnout was so great, the club professional, Tommy Davis, closed the course and we had it all to ourselves! Donuts were provided for breakfast, drinks and snacks were distributed during the game, and lunch was included during the break between rounds.
Nineteen teams teed off at 8:00 am, and after being split into two flights, the winners in the 1st flight were Larry Jolly, Max Thompson, Glenn Thompson and Dan Dupree. Topping out the 2nd flight was Lynn Ward, Kenneth Coppedge, Curtis Leggett and Daryl Aycock.
Twenty-four teams teed off at 1:00 pm, and the 1st place team in the top flight consisted of Donnie Britt, Chris Carlson, Bennie Bittle and Keith Leikel. Finishing at the top of the 2nd flight were Claud Ipock, Drew Johnson, Michael Taylor and Junior Godwin.
The biggest winners of all will be the District 71 scholarship recipients for this year. This is our biggest fund-raiser of the year, of which a large portion of the proceeds goes to the District 71-scholarship fund.
The District 71 golf committee members would like to thank all of the individuals and business's involved with this tournament for their contributions that ranged from drinks, snacks, giveaways, prizes and hole sponsors. Also, a special thanks to everyone who donated their time and efforts for soliciting teams, hole sponsors, donations, cooking lunch, working registration and supporting District 71 in this annual event. Plans are already underway to make next year's tournament even bigger and better! For more information, contact Terry Ellis at (252) 459-2128 or Kesha Liles at (252) 237- 0148. Look for it in October of 2002!
